I thought I was doing everything right. I had a college degree, a successful career in programming, a wonderful fiancée, and a steady income. From the outside, life looked great.

Behind the scenes, I was living paycheck to paycheck with no savings, no investments, and more than $50,000 in debt. I had no financial plan, and I didn’t realize how vulnerable that made us.

Everything changed when my mother became too sick to work. Suddenly, she needed a place to live and someone to support her. Thanks to the generosity of my roommates, she moved into our apartment. While I could offer her food and shelter, I couldn’t offer financial security.

Watching my mother face that uncertainty forced us to confront our own reality. We realized that one missed paycheck could leave us all in crisis. That moment became our wake-up call.

We committed to mastering personal finance. We devoured books, podcasts, and every trusted resource we could find. One book, The Automatic Millionaire, completely changed our perspective. It taught us that financial freedom isn’t about how much you make. It’s about having a plan for your money. 

Within three years, our lives looked completely different. We eliminated my credit card debt, built an emergency fund, bought a home, started a family, and gained the peace of mind that comes from financial confidence.

That journey ignited a passion that became our purpose.
